Cyber Security Engineer (Sydney)

29 December 2022

Role: Cyber Security Engineer
Location: Sydney CBD Hybrid
Division: Professional Services

Is your current role limiting your potential?

Be rewarded in a challenging Cyber Security role where no two days are the same.

  • Technical Leadership role within an agile and boutique firm
  • Sydney-based hybrid role, exposure to small, medium, and large enterprise clients
  • Execute, lead, and see outcomes of your ideas
  • Make your mark and a name for yourself in the cyber security industry
  • Competitive salary, performance bonus, profit share, professional development budget

Be part of a team delivering cyber security solutions across projects and long-term managed services clients.

You will recommend and design approaches to solve client challenges or achieve their objectives. This is a client-facing role, interfacing with the various subject matter experts in our delivery team.

The Role

This role represents a rare opportunity for a highly objective, strategic, and independent cyber security engineer, who is searching for a challenging yet rewarding role where they are provided the latitude to develop, implement, and see the results of their own ideas. With a direct line to the Managing Director, regular communication with adjacent team members, and minimal red tape, our company will empower the right candidate to reach their full potential.

To realise this opportunity, we require you bring general knowledge and experience from enterprise IT environments to the table. Given this is a consultancy role, we will also require this experience to involve working within a team and with external stakeholders. In saying this, we will actively invest in the right candidate, and will encourage you to build and expand your technical capability. Our preference is to promote rather than hire, with multiple career pathways available.

About You

To enjoy and be a high performer in this role, we expect you would be:

  • Motivated by a position which provides you the opportunity to work with technical data and to see the tangible results of your efforts over time
  • Unafraid to try new things even when it is outside your direct experience and competency
  • A highly objective and deliberate decision maker – you rely on facts and data and never let emotions get in the way
  • Your friends would describe you as a great listener
  • Comfortable taking the lead from others, your preference is to be in a senior supporting role collaborating directly with the Managing Director
  • A positive thinker who views setbacks as a learning experience
  • Comfortable without management always looking over your shoulder, but appreciative of essential structure and supervision
  • Someone who prefers a ‘hands-off’ approach to managing direct reports – you trust them to complete the work to a high standard, but appreciate the need to check from time to time
  • Someone who balances attention to detail with the importance of working in a timely manner
  • Extremely adept with numerical data – not only with interpretation, but communicating the meaning of this data to others with no background in the topic
  • A persuasive and well-spoken individual, able to create a compelling argument and persuade others

Requirements

From a technical standpoint, we will require you to demonstrate general competency in enterprise ICT environments and across 2-4 of the following areas:

  • MS Azure, M365, AWS
  • System hardening
  • Application control
  • Privilege management
  • Vulnerability management
  • Endpoint security including EDR/XDR
  • Security operations

If you feel as if your current role is limiting your potential, if you have the capacity to realise your own ideas in client organisations and want to make a mark in the industry, and if the above points resonate with you, we have the perfect opportunity for you.

This role will be based in Sydney and will have a mixture of office working, home working and some travel to client sites.
